Prince Albert Road - Secondary Glazing in a 56mm Cavity

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Road traffic

Property: Victorian house near Regent’s Park, NW1

Solution: Bespoke inward-opening timber secondary windows with 49dB laboratory-rated acoustic glazing

Key constraint: Approximately 56mm glass-to-glass cavity

Measured result: LAeq reduced by at least 12.3dB; LAFmax reduced by 20.5dB

DESCRIPTION:

Road-traffic noise affected a master bedroom retaining its original timber sash windows. Bespoke acoustic secondary windows were installed internally within a restricted 56mm glass-to-glass cavity, allowing the original windows and external appearance to remain unchanged.

Bow Quarter - Secondary Glazing for Railway Noise in a Grade II Listed Building

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Overground, mainline and DLR railway services

Property: Grade II listed Bow Quarter apartment

Solution: Bespoke 49dB-rated Soundproof Ultra timber secondary windows

Key constraint: Approximately 95mm glass-to-glass cavity, original Crittall windows, openings over four metres high and curved heads

Measured result: LAeq reduced by 17.0dB; maximum recorded level reduced by 24.1dB

DESCRIPTION:

The Grade II listed apartment retained its original single-glazed Crittall windows but was heavily affected by nearby railway services. Bespoke timber secondary windows were designed around the unusually tall curved openings and installed approximately 95mm behind the original glazing.

Nunhead - Acoustic Sash Windows for Road Traffic Noise

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Mixed road traffic

Property: Family home in a conservation area

Solution: 43dB rated timber acoustic sash windows

Key constraint: Traditional appearance and conservation-area setting

DESCRIPTION:

A conservation-area home beside a busy A-road was affected by traffic throughout the day and night, with a speed bump immediately outside creating additional vehicle noise. We installed timber acoustic sash windows while keeping the design and proportions close to the original windows.

Tower Bridge - Acoustic Windows for Heavy Road Traffic

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Heavy dual-carriageway traffic

Property: London apartment near Tower Bridge

Solution: Bespoke 49dB Soundproof Ultra windows and balcony doors

Key feature: Purpose-made curved-head windows

DESCRIPTION:

A Tower Bridge apartment was exposed to heavy road traffic and low-frequency traffic noise from the adjacent dual carriageway. Bespoke acoustic windows with curved heads were manufactured to suit the architecture, alongside improvements to the balcony-door arrangement.

Catford - Mock Sash Windows for Traffic and Siren Noise

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Road traffic and ambulance sirens

Property: South East London home

Solution: 51dB triple-glazed mock sash windows

Key feature: Traditional sash appearance with a high-performance opening system

DESCRIPTION:

This Catford home faced a busy A-road carrying cars, buses, motorbikes and lorries, together with frequent ambulance sirens from nearby University Hospital Lewisham. Triple-glazed mock sash windows were selected to combine higher acoustic performance with a traditional sash-window appearance.

Brockley - Acoustic Windows and Front Door for Road and Rail Noise

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise source: Road traffic at the front and railway noise at the rear

Property: Brockley home

Solution: Acoustic sash windows, acoustic front door and adjacent glazing

Key feature: Multiple façade openings treated as part of the project

DESCRIPTION:

This Brockley property faced two different external noise sources: road traffic at the front and railway noise at the rear. Acoustic sash windows were installed at both elevations, together with an acoustic front door and adjacent glazing at the front of the property.

Regent’s Park - Studio Window for a Rehearsal Space

PROJECT DETAILS:

Noise requirement: Control sound transmission into and out of the studio

Property: Rehearsal studio designed by Reed Watts

Solution: Specialist fixed Studio Line window system

Key feature: Large window, natural light and visual connection retained

DESCRIPTION:

This specialist rehearsal studio in Regent’s Park required acoustic separation in both directions: limiting outside noise entering the performance space while also controlling music and rehearsal noise leaving it. A large fixed studio-window system was designed to preserve natural light and views from the room.

RDY Creative - Rw 59dB Studio Window for Vocal Recording

PROJECT DETAILS:

Application: Recording studio

Spaces: Control room and vocal booth

Solution: Custom Studio Ultra+ window

Laboratory rating: Rw59 dB (-1; -5)

DESCRIPTION:

RDY Creative required acoustic separation between its control room and vocal booth while maintaining clear visual communication between the two spaces. A custom Studio Ultra+ window was designed around the studio’s dimensions and recording requirements.
