Nestled amongst the trees of Regent’s Park is the new rehearsal studio designed by Reed Watts. Barely visible between the branches, its larchwood cladding shifts in tone around the two-story cube, creating a barely perceptible space for dance, music and theatre.

Described by the designers as “a space of thoughtfulness,” sound quality requirements were high to say the least. There needed to be no noise intrusion from the picnickers in the park, which could not only distract the performers, but ruin any recordings. And the sunny morning lot eating sandwiches on nearby Nannies Lawn needed to be saved from the sounds of errant notes and stomping feet.

The architects required a large window that could allow in natural light, and give those rehearsing inside a view of the protected London plane tree they’re shaded by, all whilst offering incredible noise reduction.

Such a prestigious project requires an equally impressive product, so we opted to install our most robust studio window system comprised of two separate glazing units.

On the outside we have 47dB double glazed unit laminated with PVB. Inside is a 12.8mm thick, 39dB sheet. With a total depth of 260mm, this is a big unit, with a big reduction in noise — 59dB (the highest we’ve ever achieved).
